Tufts University: John Conklin - Sociology - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review: Conklin is a very well-respected criminologist who has conducted some interesting research. Nonetheless, his class was boring at times. Although the readings were quite informative, they had very little to do with what was discussed in class. Conklin rarely asked for class involvement, instead opting to lecture for the entire class period. Despite these shortcommings, I would recommend the class for anyone who is interested in understanding the law and the legal profession from a sociological perspective.
Workload: Workload was relatively light. 6 3-page papers over the course of the semester and 2 in-class essays about films. No final. I found the readings to be quite interesting for the most part.

Review: I really like Professor Conklin. While people may think he is boring, he really knows his stuff. He is willing to help his students and you learn alot in his classes. If you do the work the assignments are interesting and he is enthusiastic about what he is teaching. Also, he is very tolerant of other views and not a hard grader.
Workload: Manageable workload. The assignments were not hard.

Review: Professor Conklin seems like a nice guy, but his class is terribly boring. Lectures seem to drag on for hours and reading assignments are so bland that its hard to get past the first page. Effectively kills interesting material.
Workload: There are three tests and no final. Questions are all multiple choice and very specific. There are also computer-based analysis assignments and two short papers.
