Tufts University: Martin Sherwin - History - Professor ratings, reviews and much more | JumboAccess
Review:
This class was mostly excellent. Professor Sherwin chose interesting films and books, and assigned paper topics that required students to do more than just regurgitate readings. Two negatives- there is a large contingency of students who sit in the back of the class and talk to each other (not about class) which can be distracting, and Professor Sherwin tends to call on the same few students repeatedly, even when other students are raising their hands to speak. Overall, a great class, team taught with Prof. Gassel. Both professors are approachable, knowledgeable, and the kind of professors who are interested in their students, and not just their own research.
Workload:
A lot of reading, but all worth it, and mostly very interesting. Typically 200-300 pages a week, plus a short response paper to films watched in class. Three quizzes and three papers. Be prepared to work, but it is all worth it. You will come away from this class with a solid understanding of the Vietnam War, with both American and Vietnamese perspectives.
